"He is risen, He is not here...go your way, tell His disciples and Peter." Mark 16:6,7
The word "impulsive" and "Peter" go together. As the saying goes, he often "engaged his mouth before putting his brain in gear" or simply acted without thinking. For example: he attempted to walk on the water, he questioned Jesus as to how many times he should forgive someone who had wronged him, he argued when Jesus predicted His crucifixion, he drew his sword in the Garden of Gethsemane and cut off a servant's ear, and finally, after promising Jesus that he was ready to go with Him both into prison and to death, Peter turned around and denied Jesus three times.
Does this sound like you or me? It's pretty discouraging sometimes, isn't it? We wonder if there is any place in the Kingdom of God for followers like us. I think that's why the angel made his announcement so clearly..."Tell His disciples and Peter..." Tell Peter, and all of us, that we are forgiven and loved. And what happened? On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached and three thousand listeners were baptized!
Lord, sometimes we feel like Peter in what we say and do. Help us to remember that our weaknesses can be turned into strong actions of faith if we commit them to You. Show us the place that You would have us serve so that we may win others to You as Peter did. In Your holy name we pray...amen!
Blessings...Pastor Gary
