Remembering

"This is my body which is given for you...do this in remembrance of me." Luke 22:19

I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin...Chetek, Wisconsin. I have been back "home" several times over the year. What I have found interesting is that very few people there remember me anymore. It almost seems like I'm a stranger in my own hometown. We all like to be remembered, don't we? We can feel hurt if old friends don't know us anymore.

Jesus wanted to be remembered, too. More than the fact that He wanted to be remembered, His friends needed to remember Him too. They needed to remember how He had lived among them, what He had taught them, and what He had told them to do. More than that, they needed to remember that He gave His life for them. At His last supper with the disciples, He gave each of them a little bread to represent His body and a sip from a cup to represent His blood. After He was gone, they ate bread together and remembered that Jesus had let His body be killed for them. They drank from a cup together and remembered that Jesus had shed His blood for them.

Jesus died for us too. He gave His life that we would live forever. We remember that every day, but we have a special reminder whenever we share the Lord's Supper with all believers.

Thank You, God, for sending Jesus to give His life for us. We promise to remember Him always, try to do what He calls us to do, and to do so in His holy name. Thank You, holy Lord! Amen!

Blessings...Pastor Gary
